Cruse Mansion

Thomas Cruse came to Helena in 1867 and staked a claim at the place where he later founded the town of Marysville. He became one of the richest men in Montana with the discovery of the Drumlummon Mine. Cruse is important to Montana history for his financial support in carrying the bonds that built the state capitol. He also contriubuted one-third of the cost of building the St. Helena Cathedral. He died in 1914. The Cruse mansion sat on the southwest corner of Benton Avenue and Lawrence until the 1960s, when it was demolished.
