Harriet Sanders

 


 

 

Harriet Peck Fenn was born in Ohio in 1834. She attended Lake Erie College before marrying Wilbur Fisk Sanders in 1858. In 1863 the couple, with their children, traveled by steam boat to Fort Benton, and then moved on to Bannack and Virginia City. Harriet was famous for her participaton in the social and cultural lives of the early mining towns. The family later moved to Helena, where Harriet continued her social commitments and promoted women's suffrage. She passed away in 1909.
