Welcome to the Lewis and Clark County History Project! This online encyclopedia, created and maintained by the Montana Historical Society and the Lewis & Clark Library, is a gateway to people, buildings, neighborhoods, and organizations of historical significance to Helena and the surrounding area. The project, begun in May 2007, features more than 30 entries, complete with authoritative narratives, documents, photographs, bibliographies, and links to outside resources. This project will continue to grow and evolve, so check back often for new and additional information. We hope you enjoy this journey into Lewis and Clark County history!

 

The information gathered together for this project is meant to act as a guide for finding primary and secondary resources about people, places, and topics in Lewis and Clark County History.  This project is not meant to provide all of the available information on a particular topic.  Rather, users can use the citations provided here to guide them in their research when they visit the Montana Historical Society Research Center or the Lewis and Clark County Public Library.
